A huge thank you to all the children, parents and teachers for a fantastically freakish Halloween at ISB!

Cakesale!!!

The ISB school council is proud to announce that it will be holding a cakesale on Tuesday 19th November.  The proceeds raised will go towards organising a magician, children’s entertainer or other guest to our school during the cold, dark days of January.

So let’s get baking, with all cake donations gratefully received on the day.  The more yummy cake we sell, the more options we have for arranging a special guest for the primary children!

Any helpers who have some time to help sell?

See you on the day with the school councilors and myself but arrive early to avoid disappointment!!!

Great start to our second session ISB Lego Club!

Space exploration and maybe a bit of Star Wars next week.

Note:
If you would like to bring in your own Lego. Please bring it assembled or in a labelled Ziploc bag.

Toy Story Descriptions

image

We watched a scene from Toy Story where Buzz explains that he is a Space Ranger and not a toy. We discussed the two characters and what they are like. We focused both on appearance and personal traits.

We created a descriptive list for Woody:

Happy, good, kind, hero, cowboy, holster, red scarf, cowboy hat, etc.

Our subsequent lesson was to choose a character from Toy Story and use descriptive language to explain them. Check out our Literacy board for the results.

Terrific Toys Venus!

Animal Numbers

We explored matching objects to their corresponding numeral. Our Smartboard lesson looking at different amounts of toys. We modeled the correct way to count the objects. We added more items and rechecked the amount dressing the strategy of counting on.

After our focus lesson we split into math centres. Children worked on matching animals to numerals. We practiced number recognition on our iPads. Finally our friends used dry erase boards and numberlines to practice writing numbers.

We extended our activity by practicing single digit addition and correct number sentence formation.

Marvelous Maths Venus!

Fantastic gymnastics with the Mars class

In P.E we have moved on to gymnastics this term, and today we were practising balancing, rolling, jumping and upper body skills. Some people found it difficult at first to get on the horse but there was a lot of persistence (one of our key IPC words) and a lot of improvement. Well done all!

Kindness chart

Dear all,

In SEAL (social and emotional aspects of learning) today in the Mars class we discussed and brainstormed how we could resolve conflicts with other children, in the playground or otherwise. As a result there is a ‘kindness chart’ on the noticeboard in the hallway. We will be rewarding and promoting kind acts on this chart and looking for kind behaviour.

Regards,

Mr Wallace
