Science Days

On Monday and Tuesday next week we will be welcoming back Philip and Amy Rose from Sci-Tech. Last year they astounded the children with exploding science… we cannot wait to experience science with them again.

All the children in the primary from Nursery to Year Six will learn about forces. During the practical and physical activities the children will learn:

– A force is a push or a pull.

-Forces are measured in Newtons.

-What the experience of a Newton of force feels like.

-What the six possible effects from applying force to an object are.

-That forces can be controlled by holding them in balance.

-Force can be amplified using tools such as levers and pulleys.

-Why falling objects accelerate even though gravity is a constant force.

The children from Year Two to Year Six will also take part in an ice cream workshop. The children will be make their own ice cream and learn the science behind making the delicious treat.

Parents are very welcome to join in the fun!

Monday 22nd September,   Year 3,4, 5 and 6,  Ice Cream,     8.50-9.10 am

                                                   Year 2, 3,4, 5 and 6, Forces,       1 pm – 2.45

Tuesday 23rd September,   Nursery, Reception, Year One,   8.50 – 10.00

This morning we have been taking photographs of all the children and staff in the primary. The photographs of the children are only for internal use. We will arrange for a class and individual photographs of the children later in the year. We will let parents know in good time.

We are very proud of how well all the children have settled into their new classes. What a fantastic start to the new school year!

The first two weeks of term are used by all teachers to settle the children into their new classes, establish class rules, routines, assess the children and set individual targets. All teachers need to do this prior to planning the curriculum, as naturally the assessment data impacts on the children´s future learning.
The curriculum overviews will be sent out to parents on Monday 22nd September. You will find a copy in your child’s book bag. This documents shows an overview of the curriculum content till Christmas. It is an overview, as many children need extending and support in areas of the curriculum. The next curriculum overview will be given to parents in January.
Achievement Assembly
Every Thursday we hold our achievement assembly. During the assembly we sing together and award certificates to those children who have worked exceptionally well. This may be in regards to effort, work or acts of kindness and thoughtfulness.
Children who have achieved the highest accolade of  gold certificate in Mathletics or Spellodrome will also receive their certificates during the assembly.
Parents are very welcome to join us for this assembly. Please do join in with the singing. The assembly starts at 2.25.

If the appointment times fill up, we will add more appointment times on Friday.

Class Parents

Dear Nursery and Primary Parents,

With the new school year well and truly under way, the ISB Parent Association, together with the management and teachers of ISB Primary, are very excited to introduce a new initiative to be implemented as soon as possible.

Some of you may have heard of the principle of class-parents or ‘klasse-ouder’, which is a very established and successful attribute in many schools.  With so many new families joining the ISB, we really believe in the benefits that the class-parent system will offer our school and our parent community.

We hope to introduce a class-parent for each year group within the primary school, from nursery all the way to year 6. Where we have combined classes we may consider 2 class-parents.

A class-parent will act as an additional communication/contact link between teachers and parents within a class and offer additional support, particularly for new parents and their children, which we believe would add another dimension to making everyone feel at ease as quickly as possible at the ISB.
The role of a class-parent is explained in more detail in the attached protocol; primarily the role is there to support each teacher and promotes parents to be involved with their child, whilst at school.

If you are interested in supporting your child’s teacher during the 2014-2015 school year, we look forward to hearing from you.

You can contact members of the PA in person to tell us or alternatively write to us at;, explaining;

– Why you would like to take one of these roles.
– What year group you are interested in, as we recognise that some parents have more than 1 child in varying year groups at school.

Please inform us of your interest by the 10th of September 2014.

If you are interested, but need to know more, you can also email your queries to the above quoted email or telephone me on the number quoted below/speak to me in person.

We really look forward to hearing from many of you and implementing this initiative within this month.
