In maths we have been exploring numerals and positions. Thus, time for a car race!
From our car race we discussed the various positions of the contestants. From 1st to 10th and back again! We furthered this by corresponding the colours of cars to their positions in line. Also we introduced the correct written form of positions.
Our Venus class has become little scientists! We have begun our first IPC Science unit. Our unit, ‘What is it made of?’ explores what objects are made of. We will be investigating all manner of materials and why objects are made from certain materials. Looking at their specific properties and characteristics.
Off to our laboratory Venus class!
Our Venus class took a few moments to day to discuss Remembrance Day and what it means. Our friends discussed the importance of peace. We then made our own poppy pins.
Great work Venus!
A huge thank you to all the children, parents and teachers for a fantastically freakish Halloween at ISB!
Darth Vader (Mr. Maddocks)
Great start to our second session ISB Lego Club!
Space exploration and maybe a bit of Star Wars next week.
If you would like to bring in your own Lego. Please bring it assembled or in a labelled Ziploc bag.
We watched a scene from Toy Story where Buzz explains that he is a Space Ranger and not a toy. We discussed the two characters and what they are like. We focused both on appearance and personal traits.
We created a descriptive list for Woody:
Happy, good, kind, hero, cowboy, holster, red scarf, cowboy hat, etc.
Our subsequent lesson was to choose a character from Toy Story and use descriptive language to explain them. Check out our Literacy board for the results.
Terrific Toys Venus!
We explored matching objects to their corresponding numeral. Our Smartboard lesson looking at different amounts of toys. We modeled the correct way to count the objects. We added more items and rechecked the amount dressing the strategy of counting on.
After our focus lesson we split into math centres. Children worked on matching animals to numerals. We practiced number recognition on our iPads. Finally our friends used dry erase boards and numberlines to practice writing numbers.
We extended our activity by practicing single digit addition and correct number sentence formation.
Marvelous Maths Venus!
Tomorrow our lower primary classes will head out for our pumpkin patch adventure. Children will enjoy a corn maze and will be able to pick their very own pumpkin!
Just a small reminder, since it’s a farm we are heading to as well as a chance of showers tomorrow, please wear wellies and a rain coat. Also, our temperature looks to be wonderful for this time of year! 18 degrees for late October is very lucky indeed!
